Labuan: Nizam Soil from Bukit Kuda jestingly thought his chance of hauling any prize-worthy catch will be nil when he flung his bait at the Beach Fishing competition at Pancur Hitam at Pohon Batu Sunday.

To the surprise of all, he pulled ashore a 1kg Pahat-Pahat (Baji) fish to beat 1,000 others. He bagged RM5,000 cash, a hamper and electrical goods.

MP Dato Suhaili Abdul Rahman who along with Dato Mohd Noor Moktar (Labuan Corp) gave away most of the prizes said he was very happy with the response towards the competition.

The organisers - his office the Labuan Corporation and Joran would come up with bigger surprises next year in the hope of making the Labuan event the premier national beach fishing competition.

Second prize of RM3,000 went to Mohd Hazren Mat Hashim from Selangor (Berusak/Alu Alu - 0.74kg), while the third prize of RM2,000 to Nasri Dwar of Sungei Labu (Alu Alu 0.58kg).

The RM1,000 fourth prize went to Kadir Nada while fifth winner Duang Sitang got RM750.00.

Those from sixth to 10th place who recived a Hamper plus RM100 were Kahar Haji Wahab, Jaini Alias, Pungut Gasmani, Damit Bidin and MD Jelani Jakaria.
