LABUAN:  Chief Minister datuk Musa Aman said he would instruct Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin to discuss with Federal Transport Minister Datuk Chan Kong Choy to speed up the proposed ferry terminal at Mempakul.

He acknowledged that the proposed RM28 million ferry terminal project had met with some problems.

The new ferry terminal is in line with Sabah's effort to develop its infrastructure," he told a press conference after chairing the first State Cabinet meeting here Wednesday.

The Mempakul ferry terminal project was announced by Yahya in April this year and, when completed, is expected to cut short ferry travel between mainland Sabah and labuan by 20 minutes compared to the present ferry point in Menumbok.

On Labuan's progress and development as a Federal Territory, Musa said he was impressed.

Based on what we (Cabinet) have seen and heard, Labuan surely has a very bright future ahead," he said, adding that the Cabinet was earlier briefed on Labuan's plans by Labuan Corporation and Labuan Labuan International Financial Services Authority (Lofsa).

Asked whether Sabah plans to turn Pulau Gaya into something like Labuan, Musa said: "If we can afford, why not?"
